As a big fan of late morning eating rituals over the weekend and experimental egg dishes, I’m always on the lookout for places within Beirut that serve a tasty and affordable brunch menu. Lately, we’ve been spotting a few unexpected places in Beirut that serve brunch and although you wouldn’t typically consider traversing them early in the day, it’s certainly worth a try.
Coop D’etat (Gemmayze)
If you’re from abroad and currently residing in Saifi Urban Gardens during your stay in Lebanon, then you’ve probably already tried their breakfast option. For the rest of us who only come to the Coop in the evening for drinks and to watch the live music, you wouldn’t expect to find brunch listed on their food menu but it was a delightful surprise. At 20,000 L.L. for a combination dish that includes eggs, veggies and more, having brunch at this awesome rooftop certainly sounds fun especially on a relaxed Sunday morning when there’s no traffic.
I’m absolutely in love with Dic/ta/teur and their creative space, so naturally the fact that they serve an oriental brunch with freshly baked bread was just icing on the cake for me.
Not much of a surprise here considering Bodo is the only pub in Beirut that is open 24/7. We ordered strawberry pancakes there one night over wine and the generous dish was good advertising for their brunch menu.
Balima (Saifi Village)
Balima is an artsy and cozy cafe tucked in the Saifi Village quarters that I like spending late afternoons. Having a coffee or tea there is always idyllic, especially on warmer days when you can lounge outside.
They serve breakfast all day with a mezza-like menu that includes labneh, marmalade and different types of omlettes. Combined with their cozy atmosphere and home-made bread, this is one very promising brunch to try out. Prices start at a very affordable 8,500 L.L. (for a plate of omelets with sumac). Read some helpful reviews by Lebanese bloggers here and here.
Secteur 75 (Mar Mikhael)
Secture 75, another hotspot for drinks and tasty cocktails (they serve the best bloody maries in Beirut), also serves a Sunday Brunch Menu. RSVP on 01-575675
