We were so tempted to push these buttons and see if a taxi would actually appear. It’s an interesting marketing approach. Forget the “missed call” for the taxi at your door or even doing it online. This makes ordering a taxi ridiculously easy and no need to give directions. On some trees, you’ll find 3 to 5 buttons for different taxi companies – all stenciled and with this anonymous button to push. Ah, the choices!
The wires hang in between the palm-tree-lined streets. We even spotted some of these taxi buttons in Antakya (Antioch) which isn’t as touristic a city as Mersin. This taxi sign below was attached to the door of a church:
I don’t know if it’s just the Arab in me, but this kind of thing would never fly in Lebanon. No doubt someone would think it was a spy network!
